Lesson 7

Lesson 7 web page

The purpose of my website would be to provide a connection with my students during the summer. Since I teach K-1, I will have my Kindergartners again this fall as first graders, so we are connected for another year. My Home page has pictures of the students from the previous (2010-2011) school year. (I have signed permission slips to use my students on the world-wide web)I then have a page filled with photos from this past spring, most of these they have not seen. There is also a video of a short performance that they did to honor Rosa Parks; I haven't had a way to share this with them until now. There is a countdown until school starts in the fall! The third page includes some things to do this summer, there is a link to our public library, and to our district's Summer Book Club, which is held at our school. There are also some video games to play, and a suggestion to visit our local beaches. If I did this next year, I would of course, give my students the information to view this; maybe if we do have a classroom blog this school year, I will add this for the summer. I would include some of the other children's activities available in the area as well as family suggestions. This past school year my students predicted when my first grandchild would be born and have had fun seeing pictures of her changing, I would probably post some pictures of her growth as well.

Concept Map

While teaching my kindergartners Social Studies, we do a unit on family. In the past I have used my daughter as an example of how people are related to one another. I make a web like the one that I have created here.

Google Map Posting

The lesson that I have created for my kindergartners and first graders is a map of downtown St Joseph. Each year shop owners sponsor pieces of art that are placed downtown for the summer. This year features barnyard animals; I have created a walking map, going from one animal to another. The students will look at the placemarks and name which animal is in which location or I may have a question sheet for them, asking questions like "On what street would you find Henny Goodman?". After completing this exercise it would be great fun to take the students on the actual tour, using copies of the map.
